Set to excerpts from the final enigmatic verses of Edgar Allan Poe’s Eureka: A Prose Poem, this piece is an attempt to adapt ensemble singing for a virtual/remote setting in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The notes should blur together in a harmonic wash, relinquishing themselves to the lag of the internet. The final chord of each musical “cell” offers a moment of unity and clarity following a deluge of musical uncertainty. As we yearn for peace amidst such global anxiety and doubt, let us choose hope by finding new ways to create together. The piece can also be adapted for live performance, as seen in the video recording below.
